"The Orphan's Hero" Book # 1: Prologue~Page One

 Prologue

Page 1
Violet Reed turned yet another page, in the novel excited to see what would happen to the main characters Cara and John, and their forbidden romance-Her reading was interrupted by her sister Catherine, Yelling at the top of her lungs. "VIOLET! Mama wants you!" She hesitated for just a moment knowing full well that if Greta Marten, wanted something from her it meant trouble. Closing her book she slowly made her way to the house when she got her "mother" was waving her hands like a mad women and frantically searching under everything in sight not even thinking twice before throwing things on the floor to look underneath them. When she finally saw Violet, her eyes looked about ready to pop out of their sockets, her face was as red as a ripe tomato, and her hair was in a rats nest all of a sudden an ear shattering screech escaped Mrs. Marten's lips.

"YOU!" she shouted heading toward Violet, in an uncontrollable rage.

"Where is it you stupid girl?!" raising her hand to hit Violet across the face if she should say anything that Greta thought was untrue or even move a semi-threatening way.

"I don't know what your talking about." Violet cried,

maddened by her answer Greta, swiftly brought her hand down hard onto her adopted daughter's face nearly knocking Violet, over in the process.

"Where is it you little brat?! Wheres the locket you stole I know you have it!"

"I don"t know what your talking about. I didn't take anything I swear." Violet said hot tears running down her face.

She was used to Greta, taking everything from the laundry not being clean, to her husband leaving, out on her. The only reason she stayed there, was because Violet, didn't have any way to provide a home, and food for her little sister there real mother had died before Violet, was old enough to learn all the necessary things to know in life.

The Connor's Dilemma Book #1 Chapter One~Page 3

Not waiting for another one of her snarky comebacks. Emma continued the conversation, but directed it toward her mother's two accomplices

"You two should be ashamed of yourselves."

She then turned slightly to speak only to Jason. "Especially you!"

She poked him hard in the chest "You of all people know how much it hurt me when your cousin left how much it still hurts just to think about or talk about him."

She paused "I want nothing to do with him! Why doesn't anyone get that!?"

People were starting to stare now. She felt like crying. Why couldn't anyone just leave things be? She stood making her way around her mother,Jason, and Cody she ran out the door and toward her car to drive home. Not caring that she made a complete fool of herself or that her mother would once again blame her for losing Cody or that Cody and Jason went through with one of her mother's schemes. She couldn't believe he thought he could come into her life after leaving the way he did. She hadn't been able to forgive him then and she certainly wouldn't forgive him now either.

Story 10~Page One-Forest Foe

Lady Susan was a good hunter.  Though her skill was looked down upon by most people in her small village, she continued to hone her ability, ignoring the disapproving comments and spiteful stares of those in her community.  Her joy was found in her days of solitude, tracking and hunting in the Oscuro Forest in the El Dorado Valley where she lived.

One cold day, she was hunting in the forest as usual when she saw an unexpected and unwanted visitor. Through the dense wood, she spotted a hooded figure, dashing between trees. She suspected by his dark appearance that he must be one of the Maloso Knights.  A sinister group, dedicated to the destruction of all that was good in the land. Excitement and fear rushed through her usually tranquil heart. "Perhaps if I capture him," she thought "the villagers will have to see my worth as a hunter!"

She readied her bow, then spotting her objective, released it and tucked her body behind a large oak tree. She heard her target deflect her arrow, and she readied another shot. To make it, she must leave the cover of the tree. In one fluid movement, she stepped out, and turned to make her aim. Her breath left her body as she found herself face-to-face with her foe!

Stealing the Thief's Heart Chapter One~Page One

Ophelia felt the light wind go through her hair, and breathed in the sweet smell of pine from the trees around her. She loved coming to the very edge of the large forest, dreaming of one day leaving her small community that felt more like a prison then a home. Her father the leader of the village, had ignored her since her mother died when she was a young child. When they did see each other, they constantly butted heads so, he rarely visited her unless he wanted something. Which is why she came to the one place she knew she could sit and think sorting through her jumbled up thoughts. Her father wanted her to marry the son of the suchi tribe. So that when he stepped down as tribe leader her husband-to-be could take over. She was brought out of her thoughts by a stick breaking in the trees her hand instinctively went for her knife, since the age of ten with no sons to take his place her father had taken it upon himself to have one of his best knights teach her how to defend herself against enemies. It was easy for her she was able to take down even the vest nights by the time she was 12 years trying to become the son her father had always wanted. Another rustle in the trees brings here attention back to reality.

"Who's there?!" She shout as she quickly brought out her knife.

Before she could step toward the forest a voice said "We are un-armed put down the knife before you get hurt sweetheart."

She was appalled that someone  thought she might hurt herself by simply holding the knife. She made no move to put away the only protection she had

"State your business!" She called "We do not take kindly to strangers around here."

Her father might of sent for them he had been trying to find a husband for her that met his standards

"Unless my father sent for you I suggest you leave." She said with a scowl she truly hoped her father had not sent for them.

"Who is your father?" The voice called back. Should she tell him? What could it hurt? Right?

"He is the leader of the moon tribe I am his daughter." I finally answered

"We have come as guests at your father's request." The hope that I had, that they were not invited here by my father quickly dashed away. The dark figure finally stepped out of the trees he was hiding in he was the most handsome man I had ever seen tall and lean with short blonde hair and beautiful green eyes.

He held out his large hand "My name is Dominick and yours is?"

I put my much smaller hand in his saying "My name is Ophelia."

My father stepped out of the dark forrest before we could converse further.

"Dominick!" He said grinning while going to shake the man's hand.

I had never seen my father give anyone a smile.

"I see you have met my daughter." He said sending me a look that clearly said "behave."

Before turning away again and addressing Dominick "Where is your father?!"

The man Dominick patted my father on the back starting pushing her father toward where she presumed Dominick's father was. "I will show you, I am sure he will be happy to see an old friend."

With that they were off Ophelia followed curious to know why exactly they were here. They walked for what seemed like hours until they came to a small clearing filled with tents. Men were bustling about carting wood and other supplies to large wagons.

"He's in that tent over there." Dominick said stopping to point to the large tent across the green field.

The Society of Heroes: Chapter One-page three

As I walked toward the school bus, walking as quickly as I could just in case I was late to the bus. When finally I saw the stop sign she decided  to get there then call her mom to tell her she had gotten to the bus stop safely. As she got closer she saw a tall blonde girl sitting on the long brown bench that desperately needed a new paint job.

 I called out "HEY LIZ!"

Liz turned a bright smile coming on to her face as she saw me "Hey Felicity!"

We ran toward each other like friends who hadn't seen each other in weeks. I knew my mom would be fine with me inviting my best friend to stay over at my house.

Since I tended to get a little creeped out, if I didn't have someone there with me "Would you like to come over tonight?"

My friend hesitated a moment then nodded "Yeah I think that will be fine my mom is taking care of the terror twins tonight." I nodded, it was rare Elizabeth got an opportunity like this we definitely needed to celebrate her freedom even if it was just for tonight "My mom will be ordering pizza tonight because she'll be home late, so we can watch a movie or something to celebrate your freedom." Liz laughed "That sounds great"

A voice I knew well came from behind me "So,what am I just chopped liver now!" I laughed out loud turning around to face my other best friend Carl

Liz did the same, saying "Yes, Carl that's exactly what you are chopped sushi didn't you know that." In a playful sarcastic tone.

For 3 years Liz and Carl have both had a crush on each other but were both too stubborn to admit it unless ofcouse it was to me. So, I had done my best during those years to play matchmaker and get them to finally become the cute couple I knew they should be. I was brought out of my thought when the bus pulled up coming to a screeching halt. The driver opened the door and we all got in giving the bus driver a polite "hello" before finding our normal seats which were in the back of the vehicle.....

The Society of Heroes Book One: Chapter One~Page Two

I silently made my way back to my room. Knowing I needed to try getting some more sleep. Crawling into the covers, and laying her head on the pillow she fell asleep once again. In the morning she woke to the smell of fresh coffee brewing, and the sound of her mother walking around the kitchen making breakfast. She lifted the blankets off her body, yawning, while heading down the stairs to eat before heading off to her high school around the corner. When she came to the large table in the middle of the dining room her mother came in, her apron still on, and her greying hair up in a tight ponytail. Holding two plates in her hand she set them nicely on the place mats.

Taking a seat next to me she said, "I'm working late tonight at the diner so you'll have to make your own dinner or do you want me to order some pizza?" after taking a few bites of her food. It was normal for my mom to work late.

"Pizza would be great, would you mind if I had Liz and Carl over to watch a movie or something." Liz and Carl had been my best friends since first grade, and were like family to me.

"Ok, just make sure you clean up after yourselves if you decide to have another food fight ok?" My mother asked knowingly

"Alright I promise." I got up out of my chair put my dish in the sink and headed toward

"I have to go." I waved as I went out the front door.

The Society of Heroes Book One; Chapter One~Page One

I ran towards the men that were holding my mother. My feet ached and my throat was burning from the long walk I had just taken.

I approached the leader making myself speak "Please I'll give you anything, just don't hurt her." The dark haired man laughed, like I had told the funniest joke in the world.

"Bring out the woman." He said, in a loud gruff voice, to the tall blond boy that looked to be about my age.

"Yes, sir." He walked inside, a minute later he had my mother. Her hands in ropes looking very pale.
She looked at me with life less eyes, she said with all the energy left in her, "Felicity leave now RUN!"

The big man took a small knife out before I could even respond to my poor mother, and put it to my mom's throat

"NO PLEASE!" but, it was too late he had already killed her.

I woke still in bed my hands were clammy and I was sweating through my clothes. I had been having the same nightmare every night for weeks, always the same---my mother was kidnapped, she told me to run, and then the man killed her in front of me. As much as I tried to convince myself it was just a dream I still had to go check on my mom, I stepped quietly down the hall careful not to step on the noisy board in the middle of the hallway. Finally making it to the master bedroom I peeked inside. She was still asleep in her big comfy bed.....safe.
