The Connors Dilemma Book # 1: Emma

 Chapter 1
page 1

Emma Connors liked being the only one not married or dating in her family it made her feel special. What she didn't like about being single is that her mother felt the need to set her up on blind-dates because she didn't want her oldest daughter to become a spinster with seven cats in her apartment.

So, that's why Emma was now on a blind-date with her mom's friends son Jason Tomlin who just happens to be her ex-fiance Cody's cousin.

Jason, unlike his cousin talked a little to much sometimes...make that all the time! Like right now he was talking about how long it had been since they had seen each other he had been talking about this subject for the five minutes they had been there at "The Castaway" a small restaurant near her house.

As he talked on she thought about how her mother had blamed her for Cody's absence during the wedding or "almost wedding" as her mother referred to it. It had been six years since then, and she still didn't want anything to do with him Emma, was stopped mid-thought with the recognition that Jason had finally stopped talking, and was now over at the table in the right-side corner of the restaurant in a lengthy conversation with a man who looked oddly familiar. When he looked up she was astonished to see the man who broke her heart six years ago it was his blue eyes, and light auburn hair that gave him away she just couldn't believe it. It was Cody!

She was even more astonished when he, and Jason walked over to her table while smiling like idiots.  When they both sat down at the table all she could do was stare, and stammer, but couldn't get whole words to come out.

She took that time to really get a good look at him at twenty-six he didn't look any different than he had six years before same dazzling blue eyes, same curly auburn hair and that same smirk he always used to give her.

When she finally did get her voice to work all she could let out was a simple "hi" not what she wanted to say which was "What are you doing here?" or "Do you have to ruin everything?". So, she gave him her what she hoped was her best scowl as

Jason broke the awkward silence by saying "Well I best be going I have an early morning at the office."

The moment he said that Emma knew he wouldn't leave her with Cody, hopefully he wasn't that cruel.

"Thank you, God!" Emma exclaimed happily

Both men looked at her as though she had grown a second head she could feel her face heat up from the embarrassment of saying something like that out loud.

Although now Cody was the only one that was looking at her quizzically, while Jason was holding a hand to his mouth to keep in his laughter

"Uh, I meant thank you God for this meal." was her lame excuse to cover up her excitement at leaving.
